Every so often, they would fire this canon. Somehow I never managed to be there when it was done, but the magnitude of the sound is tremendous, and no matter where I might have happened to be in town at the time, there was no doubt that they had shot the canon again!
If I understood correctly, this is an old canon and was manufactured on this site, at the Confederate Naval Foundry and Iron Works.
